This report outlines the present use of Australian native timbers in stringed instruments and identifies species with the potential and availability for utilization in instrument construction.

It also describes component product quality criteria, as required by instrument makers, and examines the acoustic characterisitcs of Australian tonewoods both in laboratory tests and in finished instruments.
