Bill Gottstein
The Trust was formed in 1971 - by forestry products industry
leaders and Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO)
to honour the late Joseph William – Bill - Gottstein.
He was an esteemed forest products research scientist with the
CSIRO. In March 1971 possibly at the peak of his powers, Bill was killed instantly,
when he was struck by a ricocheting tree while photographing a tree-felling
operation on the last leg of a field trip in Papua New Guinea. Shockwaves went
through the industry and research community.
The Trust is a living legacy that continues the influence of this
exceptional, innovative man.
