Family Forests in North America Investigating wood production from private landholder managed, small-scale forests
Patrick McCarthy - 2026
Programs and initiatives from the USA and Canada that support the management, harvesting, and log marketing of already established natural and planted stands could have merit for implementation in some Australian contexts. However, in most Australian forestry regions, trying to hurriedly implement these would likely be ill-advised. More work to identify local landowner values and attitudes should be undertaken first. Three recommendations arose from this study tour to move the dial toward a greater contribution from family/farm forests.
