Advancing Sustainable Forestry GIS Platforms for Future Challenges
Ashwood Caesar - 2025
As forestry companies strive to meet ESG criteria and accurately report their carbon footprints, they will need to invest in advanced spatial analysis tools and techniques. Currently there are quite disjointed systems and approaches.
A structured roadmap over a 12 month timeline is proposed for the Australian forestry industry to build capability around GIS. That would ensure the industry is far better able to collect, manage and interrogate and exchange GIS data. These steps are needed to unlock the full capacity of GIS to inform the strategic and operational decisions of the future.
Five key take home messages were identified:
- Strategic Importance of GIS in Forestry Operations
- Current Constraints and Opportunity Costs
- Future-Ready Capabilities Required
- Strategic Interventions for GIS Maturity
- Leadership and Organisational Culture Shift.
